Description

Monero is an open-source cryptocurrency and “privacy coin”, so-called because it uses an obfuscated public ledger. For this reason any individual can broadcast or send transactions using Monero, but no outside party can see the number of coins sent, the recipient or sender. Monero (originally CryptoNote) has undergone many changes before emerging in its current form. Nicolas van Saberhagen is the credited author of the 2013 CryptoNote white paper, but much like Satoshi Nakamoto, the real identity of this person (or persons) remains unknown. Consensus on the Monero network is reached through Proof of Work (PoW) mining. Monero has a theoretical, but as yet unconfirmed transactions per second (TPS) of 1,600.
